Semester 2- Video

Music Video      My group decided to recreate High School Musical 2's, Bet On It, music video. The first thing we decided on was who was playing Troy in the music video. We had a perfect match and it was one of our own team members, Alex Pauli. After pre-production we were ready to film. The filming process was a little hard. My group wasn't very smart for choosing a music video set outdoors in the summer time when it was the middle of January and February. My main role in the filming process was teaching Alex the dance moves and helping with certain shots in the video. The shots for this video were not that difficult. Most of them were regular shots we could shoot on a tripod but sometimes we had to hold it to pan with Alex. Overall I thought this project was really fun. The team that I was with worked well together and we had some fun while creating this music video. If I were to do this again I would pick a different music video just because of the weather. Even th...

Semester 2- Graphic Design

This semester in graphic design has been filled with many fun and creative projects. One of my favorites was the vector project. While working in Adobe Illustrator we had to recreate a picture of us using the pen tool to create different shapes and colors. This project took about 2 weeks to complete. The first thing we had to do was find a picture, then vectorize it in Adobe Photoshop to see all the different color to create the finished project. This project was not that hard just very time consuming. At first I didn't know where to start on the but once I did it was pretty easy. My vector isn't very detailed like others but ended up still being good.  My second favorite project, is the most recent, the name logo. I really liked this one because I had the freedom to do whatever I wanted. At first we had to sketch at least 30 different designs just to get us started. Then we chose our top 5 that we liked. After we traced all 5 into Adobe Illustrator it was now time fo...

Music Video

My group decided to recreate High School Musical 2's, Bet On It, music video. The first thing we decided on was who was playing Troy in the music video. We had a perfect match and it was one of our own team members, Alex Pauli. After we began the pre-production process. Each of us had to watch a few seconds of the original music video and storyboard each scene within those seconds. For example we had to write down if the shots changed, if the camera panned and some dance moves that Troy had to do. After pre-production we were ready to film. The filming process was a little hard. My group wasn't very smart for choosing a music video set outdoors in the summer time when it was the middle of January and February. We had to work around the weather because it was either snowing, raining or just too cold. Eventually we were able to film and it was really fun. My main role in the filming process was teaching Alex the dance moves and helping with certain shots in the video....

Vector

For this project we had to choose a portrait of a family member, pet or our self and recreate it in Adobe Illustrator. After choosing the picture we wanted we had to put it in Adobe Photoshop first. We cropped the image and posterized it to whatever number you wanted. We had to posterize it to see the different highlights and shadows on our picture.      The hardest part about this project was trying to differentiate all the shadows and highlights on the body. I only did the ones that seemed the most important to me. I decided to really simplify my vector down because tracing every different thing looked weird to me. I think my favorite part about my vector is the eyebrows, eyes and the raven on the front of the outfit. Those really turned out great. Overall I think this is one of my favorite projects so far in graphic design. After finishing this one I wanted to create another vector right away. Just watching it all come together was really co...

Typograpghy

For this project we worked in Adobe Illustrator to create different quotes. The first thing we did was look online for 10 different quotes that stood out to us. Next we had to look at fonts to see which ones we wanted to use for our quotes. I didn't know what to pick at first because so many of them were similar, weird or just not right for the quote. I ended up choosing a lot of cursive fonts because they were really cute to me.       The first thing I did was write out the quotes I liked in a random font. After that I began to move the words around and choose the fonts for each one. Next I began to add color to the quotes and things in the background.  Overall I enjoyed this project. It was actually harder than I thought it was going to be. Deciding on what to do for each quote was the hard part for me. If I were to do this project again I would work on filling up the artboard space more.

Video Final

News Story        For this project we had to create a story about someone in our class that is involved with something that is connected to ONW. My team and I chose Drew who was on the Raven Pride Marching Band. This project took about 3 weeks to complete. The most challenging part about this project was Drew's interview. We had to reschedule about 3 times because we couldn't get the mic to work. The third time we shot the interview, with Drew, we didn't get to use a mic because they were all taken. After showing the video to the class I received some good feedback. I needed to turn up the volume on some parts and make sure to adjust the rule of thirds on some clips. Some positive feedback I received was the b roll was pretty good. This project was really fun and this is why I decided to share it for my semester final. ONW NOW      For our final semester project the sophomores in video had to make our own version of ONW NOW. Out of a...

ONW Now

For our final project this semester we had the opportunity to film a sophomore edition of ONW Now. The first thing we had to do was decide for ourselves what segment we wanted to make a story over. We could chose between sports, news, feature story, word from the halls and even decide to be an anchor. I chose to do a sports story and to be an anchor and that's what I ended up getting. After we got our jobs we finally got our teams. I was with Josh Burton, Molly Weir, Ethan Goss, and Logan Read. Out of this whole year this was the best team I worked with. Since we were assigned sports at first we were going to do it over boys basketball but couldn't because they were in a tournament and no one could make it to their games. Then we decided on girls basketball. Josh, Ethan, and I did interviews while Logan did the voice over and helped Molly edit. Josh also went to one of the girls practices and then Molly went to one of their games. While all the teams were still finishing thei...

Graphic Design Final

Infographic This infographic was the one of the last projects we had to do this semester. We had to chose a topic and create an informational poster over it. The infographic had to include research we had found and graphics we made. A big challenge for me was, in the beginning, I didn't understand how to use the pen tool. I thought it was very confusing and hard to work with. Eventually I figured it out and used it to mostly trace graphics. Another hard part was creating the world. The green part of the world is the bast then everything else is just a layer on top of it. I had a hard time getting the edges to match up but did as best I could. For the final result it looks a little different from my final sketch up. At first I had to the words inside the earth but when I tried to do that on the computer It didn't look the way I wanted it to. So then I put it at the bottom cause I had a lot of empty space. Overall I feel like my infographic turned out well. I used my time ap...

Written News Story

Here we have Olathe Northwest’s, Raven Dance Team, who are preparing for their competition season. RDT (raven dance team) goes to 2 regionals in January and 1  nationals in February. For regionals they compete 4 dances against other, local, high school dance teams. On the other hand nationals is a much bigger deal. The team travels to Orlando, Florida to compete 3 out of 4 dances against teams all over the world. As of now the Raven Dance Team has 11 national titles and 2 grand championships. They continue to strive for more as the years go on. To write the news story above first I had to watch a couple videos on how to write a news story. I chose to write about the Raven Dance Team because I know a lot about them and can give lots of information. My favorite thing about writing a news story was I got to chose the subject and write this on my own. I didn't have to follow anyone else's rules. I need to work on giving more details and expanding on the subject.

Advanced Feature Story

https://youtu.be/JgqRJiUuWbs This project we were challenged to do another feature story and improve from the last one. My group and I decided to make our story about a foreign exchange student, Louis Lambert. Louis is a member of the international club, played soccer for the school and will tryout later this spring for tennis. On one of the first days for this project my team came up with questions. This part was so easy because there was just so much we wanted to ask him. In the end we had about 30 or so questions. The hard part was trying to find a part to film and work around everyone's schedule. We ended up filming Louis during 7th hour but it was hard to find b-roll. For b-roll we just used stock footage of things from France and pictures and videos from his Instagram. This project was very hard to edit because we had so much to talk about but not enough footage. Overall the project was pretty hard because my team didn't communicate very well and nothing really got don...

Procedures Video

For this project we had to create a video of procedures done around the school. My group and I chose to do a procedure over a fire drill. The first thing we had to was create a storyboard to sketch out all the shots we wanted to use. We had to use at least 6 different shots. I feel like story boarding was the hardest part of this project. Everyone had so many ideas and sometimes we couldn't agree but we eventually came up with our plan. Next we began to shoot the video and shot it over a period of 2 days. This part was very easy because we already came up with a plan but it was very time consuming. In the video you could see we went outside and if it wasn't right we would have to go through many steps to go back out again. The editing process was time consuming too. We had filmed so many different clips and I didn't know which ones I wanted to use. Eventually I figured it out and was very pleased with my video. One thing I would change would be the alarm sound. Instead o...

D.C. Panorama

The summer of 2018 I traveled to Washington D.C. The trip was for members of the Raven Dance team and the Raven Pride Band. All of us met in the auditorium at 7, on the last day of school, and loaded up the buses. We traveled by charter buses and it took about 21 hours to get there. After I while I got sick and tired of being trapped on the bus, with so many people, but looking back it was kind of fun. The JV dance team was able to bond and I met a lot members in the band that I didn't know before. First thing we did after arriving in D.C. was bowling. The middle picture on the top was actually right before we went bowling. There's a river that we had to walk over and I thought it was really pretty.  Over the next few days we just went to a bunch of different monuments. My favorite monuments are in the panorama above. The real reason the band and dance team went to D.C. was to march in the memorial day parade. I was very nervous and excited at the same time. Both of us...

Printing Process

Last week in graphic design we learned about the printing process. We had to watch 3 videos about different printing process and how to do them. After we wrote blog posts about, relief, intilagio and lithography printing. But we didn't do any of those 3, instead we did transfer printing. We started by picking 2 of our favorite projects we had done so far. I picked my nature man and the panorama project. Next we watercolored 2 papers so we could transfer our projects on them. After everyone was done water coloring we mod poged the pictures. We used a squeegee to rub the mod podge across the paper so our hands didn't get messy. When the mod podge was dry we then had to rub it off to see that our picture was transfer onto the paper. To rub it off we had to wet our fingers and rub pretty hard to have the mod podge come off. When everyone was done our teacher then took them home to to add a gloss over them. Finally we hung them up in our classroom. Overall this was really fun an...

ONW Interview

https://youtu.be/Tu2smSib9Ss      For this video project we had to interview someone from our class about something they do in their life. The very first thing we had to do was chose a subject. My group and I chose Drew Swecki, he was apart of this years Raven Pride Marching Band. After we chose the main subject we had to chose another person who knows Drew and is somehow connected to what he is involved in. The second subject was Mr. Carter who is Drew's instructor for front ensemble. After we figured out who we were interviewing we came up with 21 questions for both of them. Coming up with 21 questions about something you don't know much about was very hard. So Jaden Brown, who was also a member of the Raven Pride Marching Band, came up with most of the questions.      When we were done coming up with questions we then scouted out locations. We were going to film Drew in the band room but the scenery wasn't very good. We also had to film him about 3 ...

Printing Processes

Relief printing is the process of cutting away at a surface in order to create an image from the raises area. This process began in hand printing and is very popular because materials are cheap and easy to get.  1. Tone block with an Indian ink wash or a wash of a black film 2. Transfer paper with the help of iron ioxide 3. Use wood cutting tools to cut image onto block 4. Roll ink over the block 5. Put on press and inl transfer to paper Intaglio printing process is the process in which am image is carved below the flat surface of a printing plate. 1. Polish and clean plate 2. Etch the plate 3. Rinse plate for 15 minutes 4. Wipe and remove excess ink 5. Cover with damp paper 6. Run through press at high temperature Lithography printing is the process of using oil and water. 1. Apply small amount of rosin om image for sketching 2. Apply gum arabic to the stone for the non-image area 3. Apply acidified gum arabic 4. Use cheesecloth t...

Pop Art

For this project we had to take a picture of our partner and make them look like they were pop art or from a comic book. We were given several examples to help us with this project. I was trying to use primary colors because they go together and it was simple. At first I selected the the background and made it black and white to make Anna stand out. Next I put a filter over the background and if you look closely you can see dots randomly spread out across it. After putting a filter on it next,  I made 3 rectangles and shaded them with 3 different shades of yellow. Starting from top to bottom it goes lightest to darkest. The last and final step was outlining her blue and red. For the outline I used the wacom tablet. That made it really easy. I think the hardest thing about this project was to come up with an idea of what I wanted to do. Other than I thought it was really easy and fun.                           ...

Nature Man

For the Nature Man project we had to use all the skills we learned in Adobe Photoshop to create a better version of the original picture. He's called Nature Man because some pictures that were already provided for us in the server had to do with nature. The pictures consisted of roots, a cliff, trees and water. I restarted several times creating Nature Man because I didn't like what I had come up with. My first creation was horrible. I think I didn't like it because the only pictures I had used the ones provided and nature doesn't interest me. The second time I was going for a blue theme. The suit was going to be many different shades of blues mixed together. That didn't work out because the jacket looked too fake and it wouldn't blend very well.  For the third time the picture above is what I came up with.    After trying to go with a blue theme I changed my mind and decided to go with purple since it's my favorite color. But I knew I couldn...
In ecomm we learned how to use Photoshop to edit images. We had to watch tutorials on how to edit the pictures and to know which tool to use for certain skills. The first picture was easy and we just had to crop something out of the background. As the tutorials continued it got harder and harder. There were times when we had to remove spots on a wall, fix the position of a logo, take logos out and fix blemishes. The hardest editing project was putting 3 pictures together to make it almost like a collage. Overall I think this project was very challenging and it defiantly tested my patience. A lot of the time I had to start over because I missed a step of something went wrong. Now that I know how to use Photoshop editing other pictures in the future will be lots of fun.

Self-Portrait

For my self portrait video I decided to film a dance team morning practice. In the video they were reviewing new flag choreography we had just learned. I chose to incorporate the dance team because dance is a huge part of my life. I have been dancing from such a young age and it's something that I love to do. A lot of people already know that I dance but they don't actually see what practice is like. Another self-portrait that I enjoyed was Alex Pauli's, he played The Office theme song on the piano. At first it started off at a normal pace and then it kept getting faster and faster and I was really impressed.  The piece captured my attention the whole time and when it came to an end I wanted to keep watching it.      On my self-portrait I really couldn't control the lighting because I was in the school gym. But I thought it turned out pretty good under the circumstances. While filming I made sure to walk around and to record everyone to get a...

4th Quarter Reflection

For this project, we started off by creating a fake product. Once we had done this, we had to create other aspects to help advertise this product. So, after we had decided our product, we started on the actual graphics that would help to sell it. The graphics we were required to make included a 3D representation of our product, two web banners, a commercial, a logo and other graphic design images, and a website. All of these served a slightly different purpose in our advertising, but they were all important. This project definitely had its ups and downs for our groups, so we had to improvise our ideas a little bit. Our group worked very well to complete our own work on time, so then we could help our teammates later on if they needed it. This is what I believe made our team so successful; we were not afraid to share our ideas and help one another.  Finally, after about two months of working on this project with many ups and downs, our group was finally ready to pitch our...
